Clean up Monday

I've officially taken Monday off from cleaning up!

I’m way too cranky to be bothered to do anything ... let alone talk about it! (If you think I’m sitting here with my arms crossed and my lips pursed ... you got it right! LOL)

I had a physically exhausting weekend ... Saturday we were at the swap meet and then Sunday was spent racing from pillar to post and getting most of the housework done. But I still feel as though I've hardly made a dent and I’ll never get on top of everything. Same old, same old really.

But add to that I didn't fall asleep until late (and ended up reading because I couldn't sleep) and then getting up early to travel to work with Clarissa ... you got it, recipe for crankiness!


Lucky for me I couldn't put this book down ... or maybe not!

Maybe I’ll feel more like it later in the week because I was really looking at getting the rest of the hallway filled and ready for painting.

Blech!

Good things/Clean up Monday

Time to ‘fess up whether I’ve been a good girl this week or had to madly scramble around on Monday night to get something done at the last minute … and I can report I got a few things done over the weekend and managed to get a little more done tonight.

The really good part started Friday morning with the electrician arriving to install the ceiling/extractor fans and kitchen lights purchased last weekend.

Wait for this ... he arrived on time and charged as per quote so it was a good three hours work (and it’s been wonderful sleeping under a fan during the last two warm nights). PS He lives around Berwick and will do work in the eastern and southern suburbs of Melbourne so let me know if you’re looking for someone.

So the weekend saw me standing on the kitchen table cleaning the ceiling and plastering around the new light fitting and then whizzing through the kitchen to get it cleaned up after the mess I made sanding back plaster. It was even nice to have the table moved because it gave me the chance to really clean where it usually stands, and Mr H sorted out the debris on the kitchen bench so it’s looking pretty good at the moment.

There's still so much to be done and I’m feeling a little poor at the moment after the electrician’s visit … but when I’m recovered it’ll be time to get a TV aerial and sockets installed, and for new screen doors and a new back door.

GOOD THINGS/CLEAN UP MONDAY: Kitchen ceiling
I had a great weekend on the friends and outings front … and I even got most of the housework done. The long weekend I had made all the difference and some serious house cleaning was achieved … just a shame that I never seem to find the time to start on any of the major renovation jobs on the list.

Last week it seemed obvious the oven was going to be the next major job I tackled, but as usual life got in the way and the kitchen ceiling is next.

And why is this so? (Sorry, couldn’t resist the reference to Professor Julius Sumner Miller and here’s a taste for those too young to remember him).


This guy was totally part of my childhood ... he could put really complex ideas into relatively easy to understand language and that was a revelation to me.

The answer is because the electrician is coming on Friday to install a new kitchen fan and the new downlights ... and because it absolutely has to be done.


And now it looks like this.


Not perfect ... and I'm going to have to climb up on the stove top again to have another go, but at least it's part way to being fit to paint.

GOOD THINGS/Clean up Monday: Around the stove
I had a great weekend; most of it spent outside the house and it was wonderful … thanks for asking.

But I know which one I’d rather; a life rather than a clean house, although that neatly brings me to Clean Up Monday.

Last week I got the horror that was my laundry floor tidied up and it’s lasted the week, and over the weekend I got the basics done for the following week.

But believe me there’s plenty of scope for more … and the floor around the stove and fridge is a case in point. On my knees on the floor wearing rubber gloves while I force myself into spaces hardly large enough for a mouse is not my idea of entertainment … which is why said spaces weren’t pristine (and why I’m not sharing any before pictures).

And now the space is tidy it’s clear next week’s chore has to be the oven. Eek!

GOOD THINGS: Clean up Monday
This post starts with a confession … I’m totally useless as a housewife, and it just ain’t getting any better.

There’s been Christmas, then a house guest and now I’m so out of the few housekeeping routines I had that were aimed at keep the place manageable that I feel as though I’m swimming in quicksand … and only just keeping my head above the sand.

So I’m starting something new to try and get control over the many disasters laughingly referred to as my “home” … Clean up Monday.

Each week I’m going to tackle one place around the house that’s driving me crazy ... maybe a cupboard, a wardrobe, a bookshelf.

Today I tackled the mess that was my laundry floor. The floor was a disaster and it was littered with a never ending supply of empty or almost empty water bottles.



And now … the floor’s washed, the wall's wiped down, the bins are empty and the recycle and regular bins are emptied.



Time taken: 1 hour.
