Friday knitting pattern

Oh joy, oh bliss ... my compter's back from the doctor and it's all go. It was nothing serious money wise to cost, just too much dust clogging the works and it was covered under warranty ... but not having a computer wise it cost a huge in time and impact. I missed my baby ... seriously!

Now we can get back to regular programming and to start I'm going to unveil today's knitting pattern ... these sweet little patterns for dolls.

I was sure I had a photo of a doll of my sister Debbie wearing this or a similar dress ... another photo to add to the list.

Friday knitting pattern

I recently picked up this 1960s Patons pattern for school jumpers … in pretty well mint condition.

And hand knit school jumpers, complete with the obligatory stripe around the V-neck and cuffs, were a big thing back in the day (I love that saying).

I didn’t realise quite how big until I hunted out this primary school photo of mine … it’s my grade 3 primary school class photo from 1968.

Check out how many grandmothers and mothers have knit jumpers using the basic Patons patterns … including the school jumper.

PS Which one do you think is me? A prize to the person who gets it right.

EDITED TO ADD: Jo very quickly identified the real me ... the blonde with missing teeth seated right in the centre of the front row. I wonder if Jo had an unfair advantage having spent the weekend as my roomie at Sew It Together? Jo ... an email's on its way.

ARCHIVE FRIDAY: Christmas 1990
I love looking back at old photos and mulling over the memories … thanks Melissa at Emjies Treasures for giving me the incentive to get more of my old negatives scanned.

This week I scanned some negatives from 1990 to share … it was such a brilliant period in our lives when the girls were little.

This particular year my mum, Horace, the kids and I went out to Kirks Reservoir (just outside Ballarat) on Boxing Day for a wander around.

There’s plenty to see there: water storage in the dam, a playground for the kids and a small but very pretty garden.

It’s so green and lush, and at Christmas time too … those were the days.

This photo is of Mum and Wini on the expanse of grass in the middle of the garden. The two of them are so quiet and peaceful together ... which is the personality of both of them to a tee … and that’s what she was like most of the time.

Such great memories.

ARCHIVE FRIDAY: Collingwood Children's Farm 1987
It's Archive Friday again (thanks Melissa and Emjie's Treasures) and this week I was going to put a photo of my girls at Christmas time ... it's the right time of the year after all.

But that photo isn't scanned as yet (and another thing on my never ending list of things to do) and it seems as thought something else is meant to be.

Now, Horace and I spent the evening over at the Convent in Abbotsford, wandering around the craft stalls there and having dinner at Lentil as Anything.

A lovely evening topped off by a leisurely stroll through Collingwood Children's Farm and along the Yarra ... which brings me neatly to my photo of Wini and I at Collingwood Children's Farm in January 1987 (you see ... it was meant to be).

When I met Horace he lived in Abbotsford, a short walk from the Farm, and actually had an allotment at the Farm. He loves growing things, and I spent many a Sunday there sleeping on the hard ground (which was no hardship to me because I can sleep anywhere) while he pottered around the Farm.

Later, when we lived in East Brunswick, we still travelled regularly to the Farm a couple of times a year for get togethers with friends; usually birthday parties for Anna and Demos' daughters and always around Christmas time.

Wini and I captured chatting with Vicki.

And what's so gorgeous about this photo, apart from a very young me in my all time favourite enamelled blue earrings ... but Wini in the sweetest hand knitted matinee jacket and bonnet knitted by my Mum.

Mum was a champion knitter ... so talented she could knit anything and it was only when she got to the point she felt she couldn't see well enough to knit that she stopped. A bad day for knitting.

ARCHIVE FRIDAY: MY MUM ... THE CUTIE
I was so enthused about Archive Friday over at Emjie's Treasures and promptly forgot all about it ... still, it's funny the things you remember in the shower! LOL

And it all came about because I was trying to remember where I put some photos I collected when I was overseas and meant to give to my Mum when I visited a few weeks ago, and I couldn't for the life of me remember where I left them. Damn!

But I at least remembered where I'd left about ten I scanned and emailed to myself when I visited my aunt Maureen in Manchester.

So while this isn't technically a photo I took I still wanted to share because I love actually having photos of my mum's family ... and because my mum is such a darling.

My auntie Maureen bought Mum this coat when she won some money on the Pools ... and my Mum loved this coat.

My mum has so few photos of either herself when she was younger and especially of her mother and further generations ... my Mum's family just don't seem to be interested in family history or photos.

Whereas I'm a squirrel ... I want as much as I can find! LOL

ARCHIVE FRIDAY
Emjie over at Emjie'sTreasures had the best idea today for Fridays ... share old examples of past work, photos, art journal notes etc.

I've loved photography for ever and I have some well loved examples of my photography that go back to the 1970s ... and todays is from summer 1990 when my girls were young.

Wini about four wearing the blue trimmed hat, and Clarissa around two years of age..

We used to go to Collingwood Children's Farm a couple of times a year for birthday parties and a Christmas party ... and this one is from one of the Christmas parties.

I always used to dress the girls in pretty dresses and little white socks and hats when we were going out for good ... and they very rarely got dirty. They were those kind of kids. LOL

How wonderful is it have started scanning all my old photos and actually have some to share?
