MY CREATIVE SPACE/GOOD THINGS

My Creative Space is one of the highlights of my week … thank you so much to kootoyoo for the theme and check out the blog for more creative spaces.

During the last week I finished the Be My Valentine cross stitch cushion insert and after all the bitching and moaning about it I was missing before it was even finished ... go figure, huh?

One of the things that's been hard is travelling on the train without something to do ... so now I have two creative spaces: a public and a non-public one (that sounds so weird … like I have a creative project I’m ashamed of and I keep it in the attic!).

The public one is easy … I purchased the Seaside Shawlette pattern by Wendy D Johnson a few weeks ago on Ravelry. This was an easy choice (knitting a shawl … not choosing the pattern) because I saw my Mum interested in a shawl at the Adam Lindsay Gordon gift shop in Ballarat a while back and I knew then what I’d make for her birthday in May.

My mum's going to love this ... and I'm making it in a soft brown/cream, which I know she'll like.

And it’s kind of Karmic … after all the years of getting hand knitted goodies from my mother (since I was born really) I can finally return the love.

The non-public project (I so have to come up with a better term … maybe private? I’m not liking that either … it sounds kinky!) is another cushion in the series for my 12 year old niece Miss T.

This time around I’m using some amazing hand dyed felt and drawing on inspiration from Finki's blog … this month the inspirational theme is circles. Some people's interpretations have already been posted and they are unbelievable! Way too much talent in the world.

More about that the felt week ... because there's a great story to come.

On another note, I had the most wonderful train journey to work a few days ago. I saw down next to a knitter and complimented her on the socks she was making … after all, who doesn’t like a little craft love? (PS Kaffe Fassett sock yarn by the way in glorious earthy purples and browns.) We chatted for the next 40 minutes and it made not having a project on the go so much easier.

Craft has the most amazing way of opening up the channels of communication … and goes to prove that crafters really are the most interesting people! LOL

Crafters really are quite fascinating, right? What a neat thing, to be able to give your mom a hand knit present.

I love the part of the full circle with your mom - that is so sweet.

That's a beautiful shawl. I love the brown/cream combination too. What a wonderful gift for her birthday, a hand knitted shawl.

Lovely shawl, and like the train story. So true - crafting does open the lines of communication and somehow "softens" people.
